Ushguli`s medieval constructions, just like the towers and churches of Svaneti, are under the protection of UNESCO. There are 37 towers in Ushguli, dating back to the reign of the legendary woman king- Tamar in the 12th century. Ushgili is the highest settlement in Europe, located 2 200 meters above sea level.
